Leelah Alcorn

"my death needs to mean something... fix society" are one of the last words of Leelah Alcorn a 17 year old girl. She left her suicide note on Tumblr explainig the reasons on why she committed suicide. Her parents, which were very religious Christians could not accept the fact that their child became a trans teen."When I was 14, I learned what transgender meant and cried of happiness," Leelah mentioned. Her mother not accepting who her daughter was and not taking in counter that she was putting her back towards Leelah, the only option Leelah felt she had was death. May people like Leelah have no one to talk to and are judged due to their sexuality. We have to understand that we affect many people by not giving them the needed support.

May you rest in peace Leelah Alcorn

INTERPRETIVE

APPLIED
What I did for my independent component is that I created a scrapbook explaining the different mental disorders that there is. I explained the symptoms and everything that has to do the type of mental disorders.

How did the component help you answer your EQ? Please include specific examples to illustrate how it helped.
It helped me see the different perspectives of the different types of mental disorders there is and it showed me that not all the disorders work the same way. It taught me that every mental disorder has a treatment, but not a cure. Having a treatment for the disorder it helps the patient have positive thoughts and not spend their whole day thinks about their disorder and of committing suicide.
