Blog 16: Answer 2

1.  What is your EQ?
What is the most effective way a teen can overcome suicidal thoughts?

2.  What is your first answer? (In complete thesis statement format)
Having the correct person to talk to would be my first and best answer.
3.  What is your second answer? (In complete thesis statement format)
Writing a Diary

4.  List three reasons your answer is true with a real-world application for each.
ANSWER 1
- Having someone to talk to helps you gain relief by not keeping everything in
- You may find the answer you want in talking to someone (having them convince you that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem)
- You may find your feeling difficult to understand but having someone knowledgeable help can make everything easier
ANSWER 2.
- Being able to write down your thoughts when my in a mood to talk would be another way of gaining relief on not keeping everything in
- Only you would be able to read it unless you decide someone else can read it as well
-  You may find art a better way of expressing yourself.

5.  What printed source best supports your answer?
The inner world of a suicidal youth by Millie Osborn
6.  What other source supports your answer?
7.  Tie this together with a concluding thought.

I believe that many people don't have the courage to talk to someone because they don't feel that they can trust anyone... If we help the, build trust in those we love, we will be able to save a life.

Blog 15: Independent Component 2 Approval

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
What I attempt to do for my 2nd independent component, is a scrapbook.  On the scrapbook I will have different topics which are related to suicide such as depression, bipolar disorder and personality disorder, in which I will talk about different treatments/medications that can be used to help treat it. I will try to include images as much as possible, recent studies and/or real life scenarios according to the mental illness that I will be doing of that week.
2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.
I will have a  scrapbook and I will print up the articles in which I find the information.
3.  Explain how this component will help you explore your topic in more depth.
The scrapbook will help in search my topic more in depth by keeping up with any new treatment or medications that have been created or have been modified throughout the period. Antidepressants were made to help prevent the suicidal thoughts for adults but in teens antidepressants most of them have a bad reaction towards the development of their brain if used at a young age.
4.  Post a log in your Senior Project Hours link and label it "Independent Component 2" log.

Blog 14: Independent Component 1

I, Guadalupe Huaracha, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 32 Hours and 40 Minutes of work.

(b) I would go to Tri-City Mental Health Center every and used different links depending on the topic that was discussed that day.

(c)Hours are updated.

(d) What I did for my Independent Component 1 is I would go to Tri City Mental Health Center in Pomona, CA every Monday for an hour or so. After the group meetings with the TAY hope group in Tri City I would usually come back home and would do a little research on the topic that was discussed during the meeting that day to not forget what it was that I was going to look for. I'd normally would use some elective time as well to finish up looking on the topic that was discussed.

APPLIED
: My Independent Component 1 helped me understand my topic a little better because I actually got a hands on depression and although my topic is not depression, depression is the base foundation of someone to commit suicide most of the time.

Impulse

I recently finished reading Impulse by Ellen Hopkins and all I can say is that the book is amazing!!! I actually took about 2 or so months trying to finish this book because of how great it was! The book is about 3 teens that are in a Psych hospital after each attempted to commit suicide. They all became great friends until the end that the 2 friends fell in love together. I don't want to spoil the ending, but the ending got to me. After everything I didn't think that "that character" would have done what "they" did.

Blog 13: Lesson 2 Reflection

1.What are you most proud of in your Lesson 2 Presentation and why?
I'm proud that I was able to make time and that it’s finally over until the last one.
2.  a. What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 2 Presentation (self-assessment)?

       AE       P          AP       CR       NC

     b. Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence from the Lesson 2 component contract.
I think I deserve a “P” because I did everything that was asked for, but didn’t do anything to go above and beyond.
3. What worked for you in your Lesson 2?
What worked is that I was actually able to present without the PowerPoint.
4. What didn't work? If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your Lesson 2?
My PowerPoint did not work and during the presentation I felt like I was lost although I was able to present with what worked.
5. What do you think your answer #2 is going to be?

For my answer two I think it's going to be writing in a diary because writing what you feel on paper is better than keeping it in.

Make sure that your mentor calls your house teacher by this Friday at 8AM to verify your 10 hours!

Content:

1.Where are you doing your mentorship?
For my mentorship I mentor a kid at an Madison Elementary school in Pomona.

2.Who is your contact?
My mentor Patty Azevedo.

3.How many total hours have you done (total hours should be reflected in your mentorship log located on the right hand side of your blog like your WB)?

I have a total of 10 Hours and 20 Minutes

4. Summarize the 10 hours of service you did.

In summary of what I have been doing for those 10 hours is meet up with a kid in Madison and I just spend about an hour or so with my assigned kid. We spend our time talking, listening to music or playing games or her choice.

*You need 50 hours plus the original 10 in the summer by May. The original 10 from the summer do not count toward the 50.  By the end of the year, you will have 60 hours counting that original 10.

Blog 11: Holiday Project Update

1. It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is break or we are in school.  What did you do over the break with your senior project?
What I did during my break was meet up with my mentor Patty Azevedo and went to the TAY Hope Group at Tri-City.

2. What was the most important thing you learned from what you did, and why?  What was the source of what you learned?
What I learned from what I did was that when being in a group like in Tri-City, is that everything is confidential  At first when people would tell me that it was confidential I didn't really understand what they meant. Not that I don't know what confidential means, but since whoever I talk to doesn't know the person I'm talking about, I didn't think I was a big deal. From going to the group I realized that I wouldn't like to be in their same position and have someone go out and talk about anything I say in the group, since its not easy for anyone to express themselves. The source of which I learned this was from the TAY Hope group meetings.

3. If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers for your EQ, who would you talk to and why?
The person that I'd talk to would be my mentor Patricia Azevedo. In these last two interviews and the times I've met up with her, I came to realize that she has many different experiences with many kids that have attempted to commit suicide. She is also very knowledgeable on her career.
