Michael Emme

"I wish I could have learned how to hate…don't blame yourselves, Mom and Dad. I love you" "Love Mike, 11:45pm." were the last words of Michael Emme before he committed suicide on his driveway in his yellow mustang. Michaels family pulled into the driveway 7 minutes to late and because of Michael the Yellow Ribbon program was funded 1994. The purpose of this program is to try to prevent as many teen suicides as possible. They hand out yellow cards in remembrance of Michaels yellow mustang and on the card it says "Its OK to Ask4Help" since Michael did not know where to turn when he took his own life. As of 1994-2011 there has been 3,500 teens lives saved. As Michaels parent says "Its OK to Ask4Help." for a 24 Hour Emergency Service you can call

REST IN PEACE MICHAEL EMME

Mentee

This little play doh fairy is one of the many things that my mentee has done during our hour together. We tend to play with play doh a lot since molding it around and making different figures relaxes her. She's always very intrigued on what she does, although at times she gets distracted and wants to do something else while she's using the play doh or whatever it is that we are doing, because she has ADHD.

Blog 10: EQ

1. Review this. Confirm by stating "I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ."

Essential Question
Once a topic is chosen, the student will develop a working essential question.  The purpose of the working essential question is to help the student build a strong foundation of research which will allow him or her to create an essential question that encourages depth and rigor in the chosen topic.  An essential question must:

Provide a framework for studies (It calls for breadth and depth of research, Is not a yes/no question)
Take a stance (It allows you to argue some point, Cannot be a recitation of facts or a list)
Format (It is specific, The wording makes sense)

"I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ."

2.Review the following EQs and
Tell us if each meets the rule of three.
Tell why they do or don't.

a.What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
This does cover the rule of three, it doesn't have a yes/no response because there can always be more than one answer.

b.What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?
This eq does cover the rule of three, its answer wouldn't be a yes/no response. They can have many of answers depending on the person.

c.What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
This essential question doesn't cover the rule because the question would have to have answers as facts because they would have to have different surveys made because not everyone would be satisfied the same way.

d.How can an anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
This question is actually straight forward and it allows for it to be argued because depending from the different research each person makes, they can find an answer.

3. Based on your review of the rule of 3 and your experience with assessing four EQs, please write another draft EQ for your senior project.  The senior team will be meeting with students shortly for EQ revision and approval; you are expected to bring your research notebook to that meeting with your EQ draft written inside in pencil.

Blog 9: Lesson1 Reflection

1. Positive Statement
What are you most proud of in your Lesson 1 Presentation and why?
Im most proud of making time and knowing my information. I felt confident about presenting and didn't feel nervous at all.

2. Questions to Consider
       a.  What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 1 Presentation (self-assessment)?

       AE       P          AP       CR       NC

       b. Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence from the Lesson 1 component contract.

I think I deserve a "P" because I did what I was asked to do, I didn't do any above and beyond work but I made time.

3. What worked for you in your Lesson 1?
I think reading the last diary entry of "Electra" at the beginning caught everyones attention because it's really emotional.

4. (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your Lesson 1?
I WOULDN'T HAVE CRIED. I would have tried to be stronger and control my emotions.

Cassie

The name of the video in which i came across is "Suicidal Girl Makes an Unforgettable Video Everyone Should See." I truly think that this is a video that EVERYONE MUST SEE. It really shows how the rude words that you use towards someone, can really hurt them. This girl was depressed, anorexic and as she says "a cutter" because of what she went through. October 24, 2010 at 2:45 A.M. her life made a change. While trying to escape her horrible reality, she cut to deep and hit a vein. Thankfully she is still alive and has made a change in her life for a better.

Blog 8: Research and Working EQ

1.  What is your working EQ?
What can you do to help a teen prevent him/herself from having suicidal thoughts?

2.  What is a possible answer to your working EQ? Please write the answer in thesis format.
EQ: What can you do to help a teen prevent him/herself from having suicidal thoughts?

•  Being active to be able to forget about anything
•  Avoiding social medias, since most people see things they don't want on there.

3.  What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?
The most important source at the moment would be going to Tri-City. One of my mentors told me that having the children being active would really help the child keep their mind off of things.

4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you doing mentorship, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?
My mentor is Patricia Azevedo and I actually haven't started my mentorship hours but I am going to start next week. I’m going to be mentoring a child that is depressed and has ADHD. This will help me answer my eq because since I will be around to be able to distract her from stuff and see what actually helps a child stay away from suicidal thoughts.

Blog 7: Independent Component 1 Approval

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
For my 30 hours I plan on going to a Tri-City since they have a specific group there that focuses on suicide its called TAY. What I will be doing it that I will go on Mondays since that is the day that they have the meeting and actually talk to the people and interact with the group.

2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.
What I will do to show evidence is that I will take pictures, interview the workers and patients at the center.

3.  And explain how what you will be doing will help you explore your topic in more depth.
What I will do to go into more depth for in my topic is do extra research from whatever it is that the conversation was about the day of.  I will actually have hands on, on my topic since the people that work in the center have experience on dealing with suicidal teens.

4.  Update your Senior Project Hours log.

Robin McLaurin Williams

Some of us know Bob Murno from the movie "RV", Teddy Roosevelt from "Night at the Museum" but without doubt we all know who the Genie from the movie "Aladdin," was. We all know how much the Genie wished to be free and not be trapped in the lamp any longer. Aladdin in the movie asked the Genie if he was a prisoner, and the Genie replied with "It's all part and parcel, the whole genie gig, Phenomenal cosmic powers! Itty bitty living space!" Robin Williams, committed suicide on August 11,2014. We only saw what Williams would allow us to see from his personal life, but in the movies all we would see is happiness, we saw a happiness that didn't exist in his life. Williams felt like the Genie in real life. He felt like a prisoner because he was trapped in his own thoughts. Williams is a perfect example that suicide is something that can happen to anyone no matter how happy they may seem. You may feel like suicide is overpowering you, but with the correct people, they will help you survive that phase in life. Trying to admit that you're suicidal is not easy but thats the first step to a better life, don't stay quite and help yourself out by calling a hotline (1-800-273-8255) or talking to a professional.
